One Room Challenge Week 3: The Design Plan

It’s WEEK THREE of the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge and this week is all about the design plan!

Demo is nearly complete with the removal of the bathtub scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, and we have moved on to measuring the updated footprint and configuring the layout to maximize function. We also made progress on the layout of our lighting.

When choosing finishes and fixtures for this space it was important for us to consider how this room would flow with the rest of our home. We wanted to keep it pretty minimal but add a modern touch. Budget was another factor that weighed heavily in the design process. We will be able to reuse several items that we already own including our mirror, lighting, and a pedestal sink that we have in storage to cut down on some costs.

This upcoming weekend will be all about wiring for the new electrical, building the structure for our built-ins and adding in framing for a pocket door. We will also be assessing the subfloor to determine how much of it will need to be replaced before we tile.

Now on to the finishes…

We will be going with white vertical stacked 3x12 textured tiles in the shower and dark grey 12x24 tiles on the floor. Matte black fixtures in the shower will tie together with our current black framed mirror and sink faucet. There will be small touches of brass throughout including our vanity light and drawer pulls on our custom built shelving and drawers.

Check back next week for a peek at the room progress! For more updates throughout the week be sure to follow along on Instagram and don’t forget to check out the progress of each of the Featured Designers and Guest Participants spaces.
