One Room Challenge Week 5: Light & Bright

It is week 5 of the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge! If you checked out the week 4 post, then you know last week was all about the floors! This week is all about the little updates that have made a big impact on the space.

When we first started this project the paneled walls, drop ceiling, and awkward floor plan made the space feel closed in and dark. A few key design decisions have completely transformed the space into a bright and more open bedroom.

PAINT

Choosing the right paint for a space is so important. You have to take into account the color, undertones and lighting of the space. The perfect paint color for one home or room will not be the same for another. After doing a little research on paint brands I decided that CLARE paint fit so many criteria of what I was looking for. From paint selection to the paint and supplies being delivered to my door the process was very seamless. I especially loved that I could order paint swatch stickers to test colors in the space without having to order paint samples. After much debate between a few of the beautiful neutral color options I went with “Snow Day” a bright and creamy white that did not disappoint.

LIGHTING

For our teen’s bedroom we wanted something that made a statement but we also had to consider the size of the space and height of the ceilings. After adding Mitzi by Hudson Valley Lighting in other spaces of our home I knew I wanted to go with another one of their fixtures. The Margot semi flush with brass accents and clear glass globes was the perfect addition to this space.

DECORATIVE ACCESORIES

One thing the old bedroom space was missing, aside from a makeover, was a rug to cozy up the room. As with other items in the space we wanted to keep the rug as neutral and bright as possible to keep the bedroom feeling open. In partnership with Loloi, a sponsor of the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge, we decided on this beautiful piece from their Joaquin Collection.
